"Woody" Gayle Wood

“Woody” Gayle Wood of Amarillo, Texas passed away May 12, 2021.

Woody was a kind and caring father and friend. He is survived by his daughter Lindsay Wood; daughter Jaclyn Wood; nephew Travis Bird; niece Kelli Bird; great nephew Cooper Bird; great niece Jenna Bird.

He is preceded in death by his parents Aubrey and Gladys Wood.

Woody graduated from Tascosa High School in 1966. He graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from Abilene Christian University in 1972. Woody was an avid photographer. He worked many years photographing sports teams. He took photos of holiday events and social gatherings. Woody also photographed cityscapes, wildlife and nature. He established Woody’s Photography in 1981 and continued the successful business until 2008.

Woody cherished and supported Blue Haven Youth Camp in Las Vegas, New Mexico.

His father, Aubrey Wood was a founding member of the youth camp. Woody was a member of the Church of Christ.

Woody was a fan of the Abilene Christian Wildcats, the Dallas Cowboys and the West Texas A & M Buffs. Woody enjoyed vacations including a trip to Hawaii and a Caribbean cruise. He traveled to the new Cowboys Stadium to watch ACU and WTAMU play football games. He also traveled to the Abilene Christian University campus to watch the Wildcats football team play.

Woody loved to play games such as bingo, dominoes, Farkle, Candy Crush and card games. He enjoyed painting and making art. Woody played in the hand bell choir and played the Harmonica.

Woody enjoyed bringing laughter and joy to others with his onery sense of humor.

Woody was a beloved friend to those at Ware Living Center.
