Wilma R. Bridges, 93, of Amarillo died on Tuesday, January 31, 2017. Graveside services will be held at 10:45 a.m., Monday, February 6, 2017 at Llano Cemetery. Memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, February 6, 2017 at Polk Street United Methodist Church with Dr. Burt Palmer, officiating. Arrangements are by LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Funeral Directors, Coulter Road Chapel, 8310 S. Coulter Street.
Wilma R. Bridges was born on September 19, 1923 in Houston, Texas to Arthur and Ruth Hingst. She grew up in East Bernard, Texas where she graduated from high school. She attended Tarlton State College on a music scholarship. Wilma married L.N. Bridges in Paris, Texas in 1943. She taught elementary music at Coronado Elementary for 32 years before retiring. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Zeta Epsilon Chapter, an active member of the Antique Club and a member at Polk Street United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, L.N. Bridges, and her daughter, Nicki Heyd.
She is survived by her daughter, Karen Smith and husband, Donnie; a sister, Elaine Rowland; four grandchildren, Gina Middleton and husband Bruce, Jarrod Smith and wife Claire, Julie Gillen and husband Dann and Carey Moore and husband Todd and 12 great grandchildren.
The family suggest memorials to Polk Street Choir Fund at 1401 S. Polk Street, Amarillo, TX 79101.
Family will receive guests on Sunday, February 5, 2017 from 12:30 to 2:30 at the funeral home.
