William "Bill" Stratton
July 12, 1940 - January 24, 2016
William Vance "Bill" Stratton, 75, of Amarillo, Texas passed away on Sunday, January 24, 2016 surrounded by family.
Bill was born on July 12, 1940 in Amarillo to William Hardy and Lois Stratton. For most of his life, he was self-employed. He lived in Fort Worth, then in Denison for many years before returning to Amarillo in his later years.
Bill was quite a character, he took fashion cues from no one. He had an independent but loving spirit, and never failed to use his sharp wit and his loving nature to make others feel accepted and welcomed. He quickly made friends everywhere he went. He was deeply committed to the people and principles of Alcoholics Anonymous and was involved with Texoma Group #1 for many years.
In life, Bill enjoyed the outdoors; loved dogs, road trips and camping with family, and when he was able, he always grew an envy-worthy garden. He most loved to spend time with his family; children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a good friend to many, and was important to everyone that knew him. His family knows best how generous he was with his love, and how dearly he will be missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Laura Stratton, and a grandson, Jerry Hall II
He is survived by three daughters: Cheryl Hall and husband, Jerry, of Amarillo, Tracy Grisham and husband, David, of Fritch, and Anna Stratton, also of Amarillo; three sons, Stephen Stratton and wife, Rhonda, of Crowley, William Stratton and wife, Amy, of Sherman, and Daniel Bailey of Portland, Oregon; a brother, Dennis Stratton and wife, Gail, of Midland, and a sister, Lisa Hammond and husband, David, of Venus; nineteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at a later time in Denison, Texas.
