W. Kenneth "Ken" Harris, 77, Devoted Husband, Father, Grandfather and Friend went to be with our Heavenly Father on Sunday, March 4, 2018 surrounded by loved ones. Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm, Saturday, March 10, 2018 at Oasis Southwest Baptist Church with Pastor Bradley Speer officiating.
Ken was born on November 5, 1940 in Portales, NM to Charles Cleave and Zeffie Heaster Harris. In 1959, Ken graduated from Portales High School and proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1959 to 1963. After his time in the Navy, Ken moved to Amarillo where he met and married the love of his life, Brenda Maxwell in 1964. They have been married a wonderful fifty three years. After marrying his sweetheart, he worked for Bell Helicopter of Amarillo as a flight mechanic from May of 1968 to February of 1990. Everyone who met Ken knew him as a friend and he never met a stranger. He was a man of strong faith who loved to share the word of Jesus Christ with others. Some of his hobbies included going to the mountains and fishing. He also loved watching college and NFL football, as well as the annual March Madness basketball tournament. But to Ken, nothing could quite top spending time with his family, loved ones, and his loyal companion, his dog Annie.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Dale Harris and two sisters, Ruby Morrison and Juanell Brownlow.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda; three daughters, Wendy Rodgers and husband Dennis, Melody Havlik and husband Dana and Mendy Turner and husband Todd; eight grandchildren, Calie Wyatt and husband William, Joseph Havlik and wife Nicole, Hannah Smith and husband Chris, Addie Salcido and husband Daniel, Seth Rodgers, Adam Rodgers, Kaitlyn Johnson and Jacob Johnson and one great grandchild, Waylan Wyatt.
The family will be receiving friends from 5:30 - 7:30 pm, Friday, March 9, 2018 at LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Coulter Road Chapel.
