Wesley Simpson

Wesley Simpson, 75, of Amarillo passed away on Friday, March 9, 2012.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Polk Street United Methodist Church with Dr. Burt Palmer and the Rev. Kevin Deckard officiating. A private family burial will be at Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by LaGrone-Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors Coulter Road Chapel, 8310 S. Coulter St.

Marion “Wesley” Simpson was born Sept. 2, 1936, in Amarillo to J.M. and Mattie Lou Simpson. He graduated from Amarillo High School in 1954. Mr. Simpson graduated as a member of the 1958 class from Texas A&M University, where he was in the quartermaster corps. He then served in the Army as a lieutenant. He married the love of his life, Sharon Horton, on Nov. 20, 1965, in Amarillo. They lived for many years in Pampa, where he worked at the Cabot Co. and Ingersoll Rand. Returning to Amarillo in 1986, he became an accountant at Amarillo National Bank.
Wesley loved spending time with his family, especially with his boys and their sporting events. Mr. Simpson volunteered at the Amarillo animal rescue shelter and delivered for the Meals on Wheels program for more than 10 years. He coached an optimist
baseball team in Pampa for many years. Wesley also served as the treasurer of the Amarillo High School 50th Alumni Association.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Sharon Horton Simpson of Amarillo; two sons, Paul Wesley Simpson and wife Lanie of Amarillo and William Robert Simpson and wife Kiki of Dallas; a brother, Robert Simpson and wife Linda of Round Rock; his father-in-law, Bob Horton; three grandchildren, Katie and Paden Simpson of Amarillo and Emory Simpson of Dallas; and two nephews, Robert Andrick Simpson and wife Frances and J.M. Lee Simpson of Austin.
The family suggests memorials be to Polk Street United Methodist Church Snack Pak 4 Kids Program, Polk Street United Methodist Child Development Center, or the Amarillo Animal Rescue Shelter.
