Wendell "Smitty" Thomas Smith, age 100, passed away on Saturday, October 19, 2013. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on October 24, 2013 at LaGrone-Blackburn-Shaw Coulter Road Chapel with Shawn Johnson, Minister Claude Church of Christ officiating. Graveside service will be in the Claude Cemetery.
Wendell was born on May 10, 1913 in Maypearl, TX. He graduated from Groom High School in 1933. He worked as a farmer, in the oil fields and owned Smitty's Drive Inn restaurant in the 50's and 60's.
Wendell loved God, lovingly cared for his children and was a devoted Church of Christ member.
Survivors include 2 daughters; Norma Greenroyd of McKinney, TX and Joyce Lewellen and husband Russell of Oklahoma City, OK; 2 sons, Wayne Smith and wife Dean of Ruidoso, NM and John R. Smith and wife Sybil of Fremont, CA; 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchldren, 10 great-great-grandchildren, 1 nephew and 5 nieces.
The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home from 4:00 - 6:00 pm, Wednesday, October 23, 2013
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to either the Alzheimers Research or the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
