Virginia Miller Welch
1934-2016
Virginia Miller Welch, 82, of Amarillo died on Sunday, November 27, 2016. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 am Friday, December 2, 2016 in Dreamland Cemetery, Canyon, TX with Rev. Ron Muller, officiating. Arrangements by LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Funeral Directors, Coulter Road Chapel, 8310 S Coulter Street.
Virginia was born at home on May 12, 1934 in Hall County outside of Memphis, TX to Joe C. and Nettie Wiseman Miller. She graduated from Quail High School. She attended West Texas State College, where she graduated in 1955. She married Raymond E. Welch in 1954. She taught elementary for nine years in Tulia. She and her husband ran the concession stand at Palo Duro State Park from 65-68. They built and operated the Texas Trading Post in Wildorado. She worked 18 years for Dillard’s Department Store in Amarillo before retiring. Virginia was a 2 time cancer survivor in which she battled lymphoma and won. She had great spirit and faith around her while fighting cancer.
Grandy loved following her grandkids in their activities, especially Canyon Eagle basketball and Water Valley High School football and track. She loved life, enjoyed traveling, was active in WPS (Widowed Persons Service), Quail High School local reunion group, Red Hat Society and Eastern Star.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Nettie Miller, her husband, Raymond Welch, a sister, Marilyn Harrell and great grandchildren, Kristen and Zachary Warrick.
She is survived by her children, Lanee Warrick and husband Billy of Water Valley, TX, Jed Welch and wife Dawn of Canyon, Texas, and Jason Welch of Amarillo, TX; seven grandchildren, Brock Warrick of Hereford, TX, Kristi Baker and husband Steve of Katy, TX, Jenna Welch of Houston, TX, Jordan Easom and husband Jordan of Canyon, TX, Jayton Welch of Ft. Worth, TX, and Collin and Claudia Welch of Warrior, AL; great grandchildren, Alyson and Destiny Warrick, of Albuquerque, NM and Greyson and Oaklen Baker, of Katy, TX; two nieces, Debbie Abston of Spearman, TX and Penny Potter, of Amarillo, TX.
The family suggests memorials to Palo Duro Baptist Church, 5704 FM Road, Wildorado, TX 79098.
Viewing will be held on Thursday, December 1, 2016 from 10:00 am until 5:00 pm at the funeral home.
Family and friends are welcome to gather after the service on Friday at the home of Jed and Dawn Welch at 1417 Creekmere, Canyon, TX. A church memorial service will be announced at a later date to celebrate the life of Virginia Welch.
