Vickye Falkenbury-Cagle, 64, had her last heart beat and first step in eternity March 17, 2014 in Amarillo, Texas.
Vickye's life began May 11, 1949 and grew up where she graduated high school in Denver City, Texas with her parents, who are reunited with their daughter, Jake and Ada Falkenbury. Vickye loved her sister Amanda Falkenbury-Lay and brother Jeff Falkenbury as could be heard through her frequent tales from childhood. One could tell by listening to stories about Amanda and Jeff that those times are where Vickye developed a sense of adventure; as well as, an interesting way of seeing the world.
Beautiful, creative, thoughtful, stylish, adventurous, witty and onery. All descriptions most knew Vickye as. She loved life's escapades and hearing about others lives. Laughing and making other laugh, by what some might consider keen insight or possibly a slightly colorful joke, was her hobby. She expressed herself most through times with friends and friends enriched her life greatly. Whether it was sneaking out during high school with "The Nags" in the Volkswagen Bug, making a choral rendition of "Long Tall Texan" by the Kingsman, river rafting in Colorado, a road trip up the coast of California's Highway 1 in a convertible mustang, a helicopter flight over Hawaiian Island, a tour on a Segway, sharing a meal at a Japanese Steakhouse or simply a phone call- Vickye absolutely cherished every moment shared with friends.
Vickye liked all kinds of music, except rap and would surprisingly burst out singing a current trendy song to get a giggle, but most liked the tunes from the 60's and 70's. In her younger years she put on special vocal performances for her brother and sister under the old slide in the backyard-the same slide where she taught herself to on the slide's support poles. Driving her sports car and listening to music, loudly, was where she found a personal joy. She was a good seamstress and would often make unique articles of clothing for her daughters and grand-daughters. She read People magazine for over 30 years, George Clooney was her favorite actor, she liked watching shows such as Ellen DeGeneres and Son's of Anarchy; as well as going to see movies. Vickye had an eye for firemen in uniform and her favorite men in any uniform were Dallas Cowboys players Moose Johnston and, especially, Troy Aikman.
Vickye, commonly known as "Gigi", treasured her children, grandchildren and their friends. She loved to give to her family and found great joy in seeing the response to her gifts. The gifts she gave did not usually have great monetary value, but everything she gave came from the heart which made her gifts now seem priceless. She made the simplest things mean the most as remembered by unexpected visits to her kid's homes with candy, a knick knack, a story and always a kiss. Christmas time was valuable to her and she gave sacrificially to make sure each of her family had a special gift. Monkey bread and Orange Julius drinks will continue as holiday family tradition, but will never be the same without her hands. What will be missed are familiar statements like "Hang on, I'm about to try something" when running a red light with her grandkids unbuckled in her car or upon leaving from a visit saying " I love everybody in this house". For Gigi's children and grandchildren, there are not many places in their homes or in their lives they can look without seeing their mother and Gigi.
Vickye is survived by sister, Amanda Lay and husband Lowell of Lubbock; brother Jeff Falkenbury and wife Mary of San Marino, CA; son, Tim Bowles and wife Holly of Amarillo; two daughters, Jennifer Stephenson and husband Mike of Plainview; Miranda Cagle of Amarillo; eight grandchildren: Abi Bowles and Ben Jake Bowles; Gwen Stephenson, Lizzy Stephenson, Tatum Stephenson and Luke Stephenson; Deshaun Jackson and Lillie Jackson.
Vikye suggested that any gifts be made to support her grandchildren. Gifts can be sent to 6215 Estacado Ln. Amarillo, Texas 79109.
