Velma Juanita Shepard, 90 of Amarillo passed away Saturday, April 9, 2011, in Ralls.
Services were at 2 p.m. Monday, April 11, 2011 in Anna Street Church of Christ with Gene Shelburne officiating. Burial was in Llano Cemetery by LaGrone-Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors Coulter Road Chapel, 8310 S. Coulter St.
Mrs. Shepard was born Aug. 20, 1920, in Paradise to William Jackson Rhoten and Dovie Campbell Rhoten. She married Elmer Louis Shepard on Aug. 14, 1935, in Jean. They were charter members of Anna Street Church of Christ. He preceded her in death on April 24, 1986.
Velma worked for TG&Y for 29 years. She moved to the Ralls area in 2002 to be near her daughter and her family. She had been living in the Ralls Nursing Home at the time of her death.
She also was preceded in death by two sons, Ronald Wayne Shepard, who died May 9, 1968, in Vietmam and Gary Lee Shepard, on Dec. 30, 2003; and several brothers and sisters.
Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Dunn and husband Darrell of Lorenzo; her grandchildren, Todd Measles and wife Donna of Lorenzo, Joanie Higgins and husband Eddie of Amarillo, Randy Shepard and wife Traycee of Cypress, Debbie Zamora and husband Dennis of Las Cruces, N.M., Jayna Dunn of Floydada, Jeff Dunn and wife Lana of Ralls, and Philip Dunn and wife Cindy of Andrews; two sisters, Beatrice Jeter of Fort Worth and Viola Asbery of Arlington, Wash.; several great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
The family suggests memorials be to a charity of choice.
