Velma Raye O'Kelley, 83, of Amarillo passed away on Sunday, January 5, 2020. Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7:00 pm, Tuesday, January 7, 2020 at LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Coulter Road Chapel. Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, January 8, 2020 at LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Coulter Road Chapel with Pastor Greg Kinch of South Lawn Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Amarillo.
Velma was born on April 22, 1936 in Marlow, OK to Lowell and Eula Palmore. She graduated from Plainview High School and married the love of her life, Cecil O'Kelley on September 1, 1957 in Plainview at Boswell Baptist Church and they were married for sixty two years. Velma loved to work in the backyard and she also liked doing arts and crafts. She also loved her turtles and she was known for her storytelling. She was an excellent cook and loved cooking big elaborate meals for her family for every holiday.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Ollie Lee.
She is survived by her husband, Cecil; three sons, Gary O'Kelley and wife Cathy, Larry O'Kelley and Kelly O'Kelley; five grandchildren, Dawson Miller, Noah Miller, Chloe Miller, Sachin Gordhan and Hriday Gordhan; and one brother, Arthur Owen Bullard and wife Debbie, numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
