Tressie Thompson was born to Mr. and Mrs. J.C. Wheetley in Piedmont, Missouri, on May 29, 1916. She was the youngest of five daughters and one son. Tressie married Calvin Thompson in White Deer, Texas, on July 26, 1941.
Tressie was a long-time member of Grand Avenue Baptist Church. She worked at Fairlane Shopping Center and retired after working 11 years at St. Anthony’s Hospital.
Tressie resided at the Elizabeth Jane Bivins Home for the Aged where she actively participated in all kinds of crafts, ceramics and sewing. Her work won many awards at the Tri-State Fair. Other honors included being named Queen of the Ms. E.J.B. Pageant in 1994 and in 2003. She later transferred to the Bivins Memorial Nursing Home.
She is survived by her nephew, Clifford Harbison of Amarillo, her nieces, Chrys Winegar Mickel of Tyler, Texas, and Lois Winegar Braymer-Bland, of Tyler, Texas, and nephew, Kim Wheetley of Chattanooga, Tennessee, as well as numerous generational nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on Friday, May 9, 2014, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at LaGrone Blackburn-Shaw, 8310 S. Coulter Road. Family and friends will gather at graveside services at White Deer Cemetery, 2:30 p.m.
