Tim Atchison Obituary
Dr. Timothy Bert Atchison was born Saturday, December 12, 1959, and ended his earthly journey Saturday, November 8, 2014, at the age of 54.
The 4th of 5 sons, Timothy Bert Atchison was born to Carl and Kathleen Atchison in Clifton, Texas.  The family moved to San Angelo in the 60’s, and Tim was baptized into Christ by Portis Ribble in 1969.  Later he attended Southwest Bible Institute and was ordained into the ministry in May of 1983.

Tim worked as an assistant minister with Delos Johnson at California Lane Church of Christ in Arlington, Texas.  Delos became not only Tim’s mentor, but also his uncle, when Tim married Delos’ niece, Iris Blessen, on November 19, 1983.

Tim and Iris served in full-time ministry at Mirick Avenue Church of Christ in Denison, Texas; Broad Street Church of Christ in Lampasas, Texas; and Jeannette Street Church of Christ in Breckenridge, Texas.  During this time, Tim and Iris were blessed with two sons, Isaac and Joseph.  Later, Tim served as a deacon at Little York Church of Christ in Houston and was ordained as an elder of the Canyon Hills Church of Christ in August of 2013, where he preached and taught on a regular basis for about 12 years.

Tim, known by many as “Dr. A.,” earned his B.A. in psychology from the University of Texas and an M.S. in psychology from Abilene Christian University.  He received his Ph.D. in clinical psychology with an emphasis in neuropsychology from the University of Houston.  After completing work in clinical psychology, he joined the faculty at West Texas A&M in 2002.  He was also recognized for his outstanding work in the classroom in 2010-2011 with the Instructional Excellence Award.
Tim had a tremendous love for his students and for people in general, but nothing was more important to him than sharing his faith in his Lord Jesus.  He always preferred the title “Brother” to the title “Doctor.”  He used his gift of teaching to bless, encourage, and strengthen everyone he could.  He enjoyed camping and fly fishing, traveling with family, watching football and basketball, reading, and talking about the Bible.

Tim was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers Tom, James and Matt.

Tim is survived by his wife, Iris, and two sons; Isaac Atchison of Canyon, and Joseph Atchison and wife, Rachel, of College Station; one brother, John Atchison and wife, Janet, of San Angelo; and his beloved father-in-law, Jimmie Blessen of Amarillo.

Family visitation will be held Monday, November 10, 6:00-7:30 p.m., at Lagrone-Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors, 8310 S. Coulter.  Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, November 11, 4:00 p.m., at Canyon Hills Church of Christ, 3109 N. 23rd, Canyon, Texas.  Burial will be in Canyon’s Dreamland Cemetery.  There will also be a separate memorial service on the West Texas A&M University campus at the Alumni Banquet Hall, Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at 4:00 pm.

The family requests that donations be sent to: Southwest Bible Institute, 3200 San Antonio, San Angelo, TX, 76901; or the Dr. Timothy Atchison Memorial Scholarship in Psychology to West Texas Foundation at P.O. Box 60766 Canyon, Texas 79016.
