Thomas J. Gerber

Thomas Joseph Gerber, 80, of Dalhart died on Thursday, May 11, 2017, in Amarillo, Texas. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am, Saturday, May 20, 2017 in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Umbarger, Texas, with Rev. Christopher Schwind officiating.Arrangements are under the personal care of LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Funeral Directors, 8310 S. Coulter Street.

A private burial will be held at a later date in Dalhart, Texas.

Tom was born on September 18, 1936, in Nazareth, Texas to William and Frances Gerber.  He lived, farmed and ranched in the Panhandle area, and retired from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice at Dalhart.

Mr. Gerber is survived by his children, Jean, Clay and wife Tera and Ryan, his children's mother, Joyce, along with several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Also surviving are his siblings, Romilda, Don, Janice, Carolyn, Glenn, Sharon, Linda, and Kenneth, along with countless extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Billy, a son Karl, a daughter D'Anne, a granddaughter Madison, a grandson, Spencer, and a son-in-law Austin.

The family suggests memorials be made to the Twilight Fund, PO Box 471, Dalhart, TX. 79022, a local organization that helps cancer patients and their families; or the Dalhart Elks Lodge, PO Box 88, Dalhart, TX. 79022.
