Thomas Don Di Giovanni, 70, of Amarillo passed from this life on Thursday, September 20, 2018. The holy rosary will be said at 6:00 pm on Tuesday, September 25, 2018 in LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Coulter Road Chapel. Memorial Mass will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 in St. Hyacinth Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Llano Cemetery East. Arrangements are under the personal care of LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Funeral Directors, 8310 S. Coulter Road.
Thomas was born on October 25, 1947 in Lake Charles, Louisiana to Frank and Freda Mae Di Giovanni. He grew up in Lake Charles where he attended school. After graduating high school, he served in the United States Army as a medic and in special forces as a green beret during Vietnam. He married Julia Holland on June 16, 1970 and together they raised three children. Thomas worked as a respiratory therapist and he was a member of St. Hyacinth Catholic Church where he was a member of choir. Tom had a servant's heart where he was always giving his time to help others. He volunteered at Palo Duro HighSchool where he took photos for the year book staff of the football game, he was a reading mentor, coach for Odyssey of the Mind, and a Booster Club member. He also drove veteran's to their appoints at the VA Center in Amarillo. Tom served on the Handicap Parking Enforcement Patrol for APD.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Freda Di Giovanni, his father, Frank Di Giovanni and a brother, Paul Di Giovanni.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 48 years, Judy Di Giovanni; children, Tamara Sprung and husband, Mike, Camillia Mendoza and husband, Leo and Marco Di Giovanni and partner, Jay Miranda; step mother, Jung Sook Di Giovanni; sister, Francis Ann Halpain; brothers, Frank Di Giovanni and Dale Di Giovanni; grandchildren, Sawyer Sprung, Darrien Sprung Cayley Sprung, Victoria Ruiz and boyfriend, Jessie Guillen, Cesar Ruiz and Milah Mendoza; step grandchildren, Jonathan Mendoza and Jenna Mendoza; step great grandchildren, Jonas Martinez and Journey Guillen.
