Stephen Earl Melton, 65, of Amarillo died on Thursday, June 7, 2018. Graveside services will be at 11:00 am, Monday, June 11, 2018 in Llano East Cemetery with Pastor Skip Hodges officiating. Arrangements are by LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Funeral Directors.
Stephen was born to Freeman H. Melton Jr. and Rosemary (Phillips) Melton on July 25, 1952. At the time, the family lived in Mclean, TX. A few years later they moved to Panhandle, TX where he graduated from Panhandle High School in 1970 and was the Senior Class President. After high school, he moved to Austin where he received his Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Texas. After college, Stephen taught high school for two years and then went to work for the Perdinales River Authority and later worked for the State of Texas testing cattle through out South Texas for brucellosis until he retired. He especially enjoyed working with the King Ranch on the testing program. He moved to Amarillo to be closer to his family.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by two sisters, Julie Winegeart and husband Eddie and Joyce Vance and husband Frank, both of Amarillo; a brother, Paul Melton and wife Jan of Fort Worth; two nephews, Heath Haseloff and wife Lori and Britton Melton; three nieces, Desirae Hughes and husband Jarred, Shawna Nichols and Jennifer McClellan; four great nieces, Annabelle Haseloff, Grace, Lexi and Piper Hughes and three great nephews, Knox Haseloff and Braedon and Cayden Nichols.
The family will be receiving friends from 3:00 - 5:00 pm, Sunday, June 10, 2018 at LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Coulter Road Chapel.
