Shirley Lane Elliott, 77 of Amarillo passed away on July 23, 2011.
Celebration of Life Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at LaGrone-Blackburn-Shaw Coulter Road Chapel, 8310 S. Coulter Road, Amarillo, TX with Bryan Cooper, Chaplain of The Arbors Nursing Home officiating.
Shirley was born on May 25, 1934 in Amarillo to David and Norene Lane, both descendants of pioneering Amarillo families. She attended Amarillo schools, graduating from Amarillo High School in 1952. She then attended Highlands University in Las Vegas, NM studying art. Shirley was very strong and independent. She reinvented herself in life many times as her circumstances changed. She endured every pain and survived each loss, building character from what she learned. She loved her son, her grandsons and her great grandsons.
Those who knew her will always remember her as an open, gentle and generous person. She was an early practitioner and later teacher of yoga. She touched many lives through her yoga classes at the Town Club, Amarillo College, the YMCA, the Arbors and many other locations. Shirley was an avid volunteer, giving freely of herself to BSA Hospice and other organizations for many years.
Shirley always connected her mind with her body ensuring complete control of her destiny until the very end. She was a lifelong resident of Amarillo.
She was preceded in death by her father, David Lane in 1988 and her mother, Norene Vincent in 2006.
Survivors include her son, Jeff Blackburn of Amarillo; 2 grandsons, Sam Blackburn and wife Celeste of Amarillo and John Blackburn of Houston; 2 great grandchildren, Bennett and Lane Blackburn; step-brother, John Vincent of Corvallis, OR; cousin, Lynn Lowe of Amarillo and numerous other cousins and relatives.
