Sandra Kay Dunn of Amarillo, Texas, traded her earthly treasures for heavenly ones on December 4, 2024. Born on August 30, 1952, in Smithville, Texas, to L.B. and Pauline Fleck.
On June 24, 1972, Sandra married the love of her life. On that day she changed her last name and together they became Mr. and Mrs. David Dunn. Sandra embraced life with humor, heart, and a talent for discovering hidden gems, whether at garage sales or in her beloved family.
Sandra excelled in her dual roles as a devoted housewife, domestic boss and an amateur treasure hunter, bringing home both priceless finds and entertaining stories.
She was a woman of simple joys: a memorable trip to Alaska, endless laughter with her children, and moments spent surrounded by her grandkids and great-grandkids, who were her most cherished treasures. Her spirit animal was the margarita—always with a salted rim, because Sandra believed life, like a good drink, should have just the right balance of sweet and salty.
Sandra was also known for her legendary Coconut Crème Pie, crafted with precision (and a little help from Betty Crocker). A copy of this treasured recipe is available, upon request, for those who want to carry on her culinary legacy.
Sandra is survived by her loving husband, David Dunn, who was her rock; her sister, Debbie Fewox; nephew, Mike Fewox (Crystal); and her children and their spouses: Michelle and Shane Hart, Melissa and Doug Copple, and Christopher and Jamie Dunn. She also leaves behind her prized collection of grandchildren: Zach Johnson, Shayna Hart (Jeremiah Hill), Shawnee Copple (Derric Hewett), Travis Hart (Piper Chambless), Jim Copple, Carson Dunn, and Elsie Dunn. The next generation of treasures includes her great-grandchildren: Oakleigh Hewett, Autumn Hewett, Layklen Hewett, and Soren Johnson, who already have Sandra’s wit and charm (or so she would say). Sandra’s fur baby, Willie, will also miss her dearly, though he may now finally have a shot at ruling the roost.
Sandra’s family invites you to join them in celebrating her life, sharing stories, and maybe even discovering a treasure of your own.
In lieu of flowers, consider honoring Sandra by visiting your local thrift shop or sharing a laugh with someone you love.
So next time you see a garage sale sign, smile and remember Sandra.
