Ruth Esther Carter Sims

Ruth Esther Carter Sims, 89, of Happy passed away Monday, December 30, 2013. Funeral Services will be at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, January 3, 2014 in the First Baptist Church, Happy, Texas with Travis LaDuke & Rick Bloodworth officiating. Burial will follow in Happy Cemetery. Arrangements are by LaGrone-Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors, 8310 S. Coulter, Amarillo, Texas.
Ruth was born on February 16, 1924 in Stone, Kentucky. She graduated from Belfry High School in Stone, Kentucky. Ruth also graduated from Bowling Green Business College and earned a Bachelor of Arts from Marshall University. She also earned three Masters Degrees from West Texas State University. She proudly served her country in the Navy and Air Force and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. She met her husband Wendell at Lackland Air Force base in San Antonio. She married Wendell on August 24, 1953 in Roanoke, Virginia. Ruth was a school teacher for over 30 years and retired in 2001. She loved to read and complete crossword puzzles. She also loved watching game shows and her favorites were "Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy". Most of all, Ruth loved tending to her family.
She was preceeded in death by her parents, her husband Wendell H. Sims and her son Wendell H. Sims II.
Survivors include her son Jim Bob Sims and wife Cindy of Granbury; 2 granddaughters: D'Ann Nunn and husband Joseph of Lubbock and Lacy Jo Sims of Amarillo; one grandson Trey Decker of Denton; two great grandsons, Chance and Ashton Nunn of Lubbock; one sister Helen Cochrane and husband Roy of Pooler, GA.
The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 2, 2014, 8310 S. Coulter Rd, Amarillo, Texas.
In leui of flowers the family requests memorials to the Happy Rodeo Association, Happy, Texas, the Sims Scholarship Fund, c/o Happy State Bank in Happy, Texas, or Interim HomeCare and Hospice.
