Ruben De La Cerda, 47, of Amarillo, passed away at his home surrounded by family on Tuesday, April 18, 2023. He was born to Oscar and Otilia De La Cerda on August 7, 1975, in Moorhead, Minnesota.
Ruben loved many things from collecting baseball and football cards to eating sweets. He also loved collecting coins and working on his car. It is said that he was proud of his speaker system especially. He liked watching the Minnesota Vikings and Dallas Cowboys, lots of baseball, and UFC fights, but mostly, Ruben loved his family.
After graduating from University High School in Roswell, New Mexico, he went into the army reserves for two years and then to full time service in the army. He received the rank of sergeant and also was awarded many medals and honors there.
Ruben was preceded in death by his father, Oscar De La Cerda, his brother, David De La Cerda and grandmothers Maria Herrera, and Paula Mendoza, and grandfathers Antonio De La Cerda and Juan Mendoza and a step grandfather, Juan Mendoza. He also was preceded by many other family members too numerous to mention.
He was survived by his mother Otilia De La Cerda and his children Maritza Gomez, Ruben De La Cerda, Antonio De La Cerda, Adrian Garcia, Amyah De La Cerda, Matthew Marquez, and Miguel De La Cerda. Also surviving is his brothers and sisters, Oscar De La Cerda, Angie Betancourt, Joe De La Cerda, Henry De La Cerda, Sandra De La Cerda, and Anthony De La Cerda and two granddaughters, Ariyah De La Cerda and Adalynn Garcia.
Visitation for Ruben is scheduled for Monday, April 24, 2023, from 4:00pm to 7:00pm in the LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Martin Road Chapel. The service will be held on Tuesday, April 25, 2023, at 10:00am at the LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Martin Road Chapel.
