Roy J. Harris, 79, of Howardwick died on Friday, July 11, 2014. Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Coulter Road Chapel with Blake Clevenger of Hillside Christian Church officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens cemetery. Arrangements are by LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Funeral Directors, 8310 S. Coulter.
Roy was born on October 9, 1934 in Thomaston, GA to Roy and Virgie Jane Harris. He joined the Air Force in 1951. Roy met the love of his life Sarah Elizabeth Byas and they were married on March 4, 1954. He was a lifelong fan of the Dallas Cowboys and a big Nascar Fan. His favorite driver was Mark Martin until he retired and then it became Carl Edwards. Roy loved being outdoors working in his garden and was a very good wine maker. He also loved spending time on his pontoon boat fishing at Lake Greenbelt. Roy could fix anything with or without the proper parts. He was an exceptional backwoods engineer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, six sisters and his daughter, Donna.
He is survived by his wife Elizabeth of Howardwick, two daughters, Vickie Welch and husband Randy, and Linda Joseph, and a son Gary Harris, all of Amarillo; fifteen grandchildren and 38 great grandchildren.
The family will be receiving friends from 5-7 pm on Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Coulter Road Chapel, 8310 S. Coulter.
