Roxanne Jean Shields

2:00pm Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at Southwest Baptist Church.  Arrangements are by LaGrone-Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors Coulter Road Chapel 8310 S. Coulter Amarillo, Texas.

Roxie was born October 2, 1946 to R.V. Plato and Dorothy Mae Busby in Pendleton, Oregon.  As a young child, Roxie moved with her family to Hobbs, New Mexico were she attended school, graduating from Hobbs High School in 1964.  She married Bruce George Shields April 23, 1976 in Amarillo, Texas.
Her young adult life was full of time spent raising her growing children, exploring the mountains with her adventurous husband, and working in a variety of fields including cosmetology, insurance, and managing industrial business offices.  She loved her working years, and her love of vocabulary, public speaking skills, and meticulous work habits caused her to excel.  After the retirement of her love, they enjoyed the last few years traveling with family and friends.  She also looked forward to her Tuesdays spent quilting with her “sisters.”
In 1990, Roxie’s life was forever changed when she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis; a diagnosis for which she often praised God knowing this trial strengthen her faith and drew her closer to her family and lifelong friend and sister Jane Standley.  This same diagnosis has also changed the lives of so many other that she inspired through her strengthen, endurance, and determination in the face of her daily struggles.

Preceded in death by her father, R.V. Plato. Brother Rocky Plato.

Survivors include her husband, Bruce Shields; Children, son J.W. Shields and wife Taiga of Salt Lake City, Utah; Daughters, Kari Cahill and husband Gary of Athens, Texas, Samara Shields of Amarillo, Texas; One sister RuthAnn Pruett of Hobbs, New Mexico, 10 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

MEMORIALS:  Family request donations to the Multiple Sclerosis Society in lieu of flowers.
