R.L. Long, age 79, of Amarillo passed away Friday, November 1, 2013. Memorial Services will be Monday, November 4, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. in LaGrone-Blackburn-Shaw Coulter Road Chapel with Ken Holmes officiating.
R.L. was born on October, 28, 1934 to Elmer and Ester Long in Campbell, Texas. He graduated from Sulphur Springs High School. R.L. married Wanda Hall on May 28, 1954 in Sulphur Springs, Texas. He was a 50 year Mason and was always self employed as a salesman or selling cattle. R.L. and Wanda owned and operated a poultry farm and sold poultry to Pilgrim Farms. He was very active and was a teacher in his churches. R.L. liked to hunt and enjoyed woodworking. He also was a big supporter of all of his children and grand children's activities.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Dorothy Akins and 3 brothers: R.A., Lathan and J.W.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda of Amarillo; 2 daughters, Sandra Hogg of Henderson, TX and Lisa Dawson and husband Ron of Amarillo; 2 sons, Mike Long and wife Barbara of Henderson, TX and Leland Long and wife Terri of Amarillo; 10 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to the Gideons.
