Robert Jerome King, 80 of Amarillo passed away on October 4, 2011. His funeral service will be at 2:00 PM on Friday, October 7, 2011 at LaGrone-Blackburn-Shaw Coulter Road Chapel located at 8310 S. Coulter Road, Amarillo, TX with Russell Chandler officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 PM Thursday evening at the funeral home.
Mr. King was born on September 1, 1931 to Patrick and Marion King in Lismore, MN. He grew up on the family farm there and worked as a cross-country trucker up until his retirement in 2004 and also worked for Terks Distributors. He married Shirley Thiesse in 1954 in Little Rock, IA. He loved to play cards and read and was a huge John Wayne fan. Mr. King was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his Parents, daughter; Phyllis; grandson, Chad Freml and his brother, Jack King.
He is survived by wife Shirley of Amarillo; 3 sons, Doug, Roger and Tim King all of Amarillo; 4 daughters, Evelyn Newmann and husband Wayne of Charter Oak, IA, Joan Schurke and husband Keith of Amarillo, Susan Freml and husband Charles of Glidden, IA and Brenda Chandler of Canyon; 2 brothers, Phillip King and wife Doris of Portland, OR and David King of Denison, IA and sister, Lucille Dennison and husband Jerry of Westfield, IA; 18 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials to: The Make-A-Wish Foundation.
