Richard Van Weigle, 61, of Amarillo died on Friday, May 20, 2016. Memorial Services will be at 2:00 pm, Thursday, May 26, 2016 at LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Coulter Road Chapel with Bob Miller officiating. Arrangements are by LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Funeral Directors, 8310 S. Coulter.

Van was born on October 23, 1954 in Portales, NM to Richard and Charlene Weigle. He was a resident of Amarillo for 55 years. Van proudly served his country in the Army and went on to become a successful and well-respected businessman. He was the proud co-owner of Hedgecoke Insurance Agency.

He was a published artist starting his career at the young age of twelve and went on to obtain his art degree. Van spent his life outdoors enjoying hunting, fishing, camping, golfing and riding horses and Harleys. He also loved to entertain and was an avid gourmet cook. He enjoyed telling stories but most of all he enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Van was the life of the party and never met a stranger. His passion for life led him to joke about how he loved Harleys, Horses and Hard Living. He lived life to the fullest.

He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother in law, Bob Quapaw.

He is survived by his two sons, Craig Weigle and wife Amanda and Kris Weigle and fiance Sindi Baker; the mother of his children, Debbie Weigle; six beloved grandchildren, Quentin, Alex, Wyatt, Asher, Sloane and Sawyer; seven step grandchildren; two sisters, Becky Linke and Tammy Quapaw and nieces, Rachel (Shane) Crumpler, Rene (Eric) Sendelbach and Whitney (Gene) Graye; and numerous extended family and friends.

Van was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. We will miss you terribly Papa Van, we love you with all of our hearts.

The family will be receiving friends on Wednesday, May 25, 2016 from 6:00 to 7:30 pm at LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Coulter Road Chapel, 8310 S. Coulter.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to: Thomas E. Creek VA Hospital,   6010 W Amarillo Blvd, Amarillo, TX 79106, Intensive Care Department.
