Rene Hebert, 84, of Amarillo died on Wednesday, December 21, 2016. Viewing will be held from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm on Tuesday, December 27, 2016. The Holy Rosary and Services will be held at 2:00 pm in LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Coulter Road Chapel with Father Hector J. Madrigal pastor St. Joseph Catholic Church officiating. Burial will follow at Llano East Cemetery. Arrangements are by LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Funeral Directors, 8310 S. Coulter St.
Rene was born on April 9, 1932 in Kaplan, Louisiana to Advar and Alice Hebert. He graduated from Kaplan High School in 1950. After high school he joined the United States Air Force where he served his country proudly. He married Shirley Trahan on November 25, 1954 in Kaplan, Louisiana. He attended the University of Louisiana at Lafayette where he received a Bachelor's Degree in petroleum engineering and received his Master's Degree from University of Ohio. He worked as a drilling engineer for Dresser Magabor Industries in Houston, Texas for 28 years. After retiring he later worked as a claims adjuster for Agent Mike Peters, Alvin, Texas and as a substitute teacher in Alvin ISD, Canyon ISD and Amarillo ISD. He was the founder of the annual crawfish festival of Alvin. He enjoyed golf and football. Rene was an avid follower of politics.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Shirley; his children, Julen Hebert and wife Sherry, Kelly Hebert and wife Valerie, Shelly Carriere and husband Ken, Kevin Hebert and wife Brenda, Todd Hebert and wife Karen, and Barth Hebert; two sisters, Lowmae Hebert and Joyce Sover and husband, Buddy; a brother Mahlan Hebert and wife Goldie; 19 grandchildren, and 22 great grandchildren.
