Raymond "Bill" Cherry

Raymond William “Bill” Cherry, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and loyal friend peacefully passed away with his family by his side on February 11, 2025, at the age of 79.

 Bill was born in Amarillo, TX on December 17, 1945, to Raymond and Ima Cherry. He graduated from Tascosa High School in 1964 where he played basketball and baseball. His high school baseball team went on to play in the State Championship. Following high school and attending Amarillo College on a baseball scholarship. He proudly served in the United States ARMY during the Vietnam War from 1967-68.

 He met the love of his life, Dona Kennedy. They were married on July 3, 1972, and celebrated 52 years last year. They lived in Amarillo, TX and built a family and legacy that will carry on for generations. Bill was a wonderful husband, father, and friend to many. 

Bill and Dona took great pride in owning Precision Lube for 30 years. A devoted father to Misty and Marcy, he was a constant and guiding force for his family. His family was his number one priority. He was present at every choir concert and sporting event cheering on his grandchildren and yelling at the referees. Bill also loved playing baseball, softball and was an avid golfer. He loved teaching his grandchildren the game and playing often with his dear “golf dudes”. 

Bill and Dona were members of Trinity Fellowship Church for 20 years. He proudly served on the Sentinel Team to provide security to pastors as well as the church congregation. His church and faith were very important to him. 

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Ima Cherry, and sisters Barbara Jones and Ramona Medling. His parents in law, Donald Kennedy and Martha Jean Kennedy-Campbell. His son-in-love Joe Priz. A niece Patty Medling. 

He is survived by his wife, Dona, his beloved children, Misty Priz of Amarillo, Marcy Weldon (Taos) of Amarillo. As well as grandchildren, Mallory Priz, Justine Priz, William Weldon, Harper Weldon, and great-grandchildren, Ryker and Raiden. He is also survived by his brother Mike Cherry (Denise), and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. The family wishes to thank the caregivers at BSA Hospice of the SW and BSA Hospital physicians and nursing staff for the excellent care, comfort and support they provided to Bill during his last days. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to BSA Hospice of the Southwest in remembrance of Bill.
