Peggy Ann Jefferies-Cook (Atkinson), 83, of Amarillo passed from this life surrounded by her family on Friday, January 18, 2019. Family and friends will gather to celebrate her life at 1:30 PM on January 21, 2019 in LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Coulter Road Chapel with Jody Wilson officiating.
Peggy was born on March 9, 1935 in Childress, TX to Buck and Francis Evalene Atkinson. Peggy graduated from Childress High School in 1953 where she was a cheerleader. She was married to her first husband, Jerry Lorimer Jefferies, in 1954. They had three sons, Mac, Barney, and Casey and one daughter, Lisa Ann Jefferies. Peggy married Dwight E. Cook on April 16, 1980. They moved to Amarillo where Peggy worked at Trafton Autry and Swifty Printers. Peggy was a very passionate, classy, and fashionable woman. She was very fond of her grandchildren and loved her family fiercely. Peggy was an avid antique collector and dealer. She enjoyed going to estate sales to find many treasures. Peggy was known for her love of dancing, shopping, and sharing stories.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Jerry Jefferies; father, Buck Atkinson; mother, Francis Evalene Atkinson; brother, Billy Joe Atkinson; sister, Verlene Turner; and son, Jerry Mac Jefferies.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Dwight E. Cook of Amarillo; brother, Gary Atkinson of Childress; daughter, Lisa Ann Jefferies of Amarillo; son, Barney Jefferies and wife Lisa of Amarillo; son, Casey Jefferies and wife Angie of Amarillo; step-daughter Karla Cook-Kinksy and husband Terance of Arroyo Grande, California; grandchildren, Jennifer, Jimmy Mac, Ashlee, Abbee, Anslee, Mac Jr., Cole, Jacob, and Nathan; and step-grandchildren, Jackie, Joey, Jenna, and Kami.
