Paul Edward Harper, Jr., 68, of Amarillo, TX died April 14, 2020.
The family will be having a private memorial. Arrangements are by Lagrone Blackburn Shaw Funeral Directors.
Paul was born in Wichita, KS on December 16, 1951.
He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Harper, Sr.; and son, Chad Harper.
Survivors include his wife, Sherry Harper of Amarillo, TX; sons, Seth Harper and wife Halle, of Wichita, KS and Ty Harper and wife Christina, of Celina, TX, Shawn Irvin and wife Lori of Amarillo, TX, Derek Irvin of Littleton, CO, and Zack Irvin and wife Maggie of Amarillo, TX; brothers, Gary Harper of Wichita, KS, Steve Harper and wife Geri of Wichita, KS, Doug Harper and wife Karen of Weed, CA; grandchildren, Cale, Colt, Preslee, Kinley, Lainie, Emma, Camden and Owen; and two incredibly spoiled Schnauzers who Paul would not admit that he loved, Festus and Molly.
Paul retired from Vulcan Chemicals in 2011. When his boys were growing up, Paul enjoyed coaching them in baseball, and going to the dirt track and drag races. He loved spending Saturday nights at the Route 66 racetrack, and he loved fishing with his family. Paul never had to spank his kids because they were all too familiar with his Vulcan Neck Grip. He will be remembered for his infatuation with baseball, his sense of humor and memory, and his vast knowledge of cars and how to fix them. He knew the names of every professional third baseman, and he taught his younger brother everything he knows about sports, especially baseball. He had a funny way of remembering people by the make and model of their vehicles. His boys will also remember his booming voice and how tickled he got watching The Three Stooges and Sanford and Son. They said they’ve never heard a grown man laugh as hard as Paul did watching those shows. Paul will also be remembered for being Sherry’s rock and for being an incredible Papa to the grandkids he loved dearly.
