Patsy LaRue Key was born August 27, 1931.  She was the oldest child of Arlie Hunter Key and Allie Pierratt Key.  Along with her parents and younger sister, Arline, she grew up on the farm near Childress, Texas.  She graduated high school in Childress.
Shortly after turning seventeen, she began attending West Texas State College in Canyon, Texas, majoring in education.  She met her future husband, Austin Bowes, at the WT Methodist Student Center.  He was a football player and also majored in education.  Their teaching and coaching careers allowed them to enjoy life and lasting friendships in several Texas Panhandle towns.  Patsy taught at Palo Duro High School in Amarillo for many years teaching typing and other business classes.   Education was important to her, and she enjoyed seeing her former students and hearing about their accomplishments.   She attended retired teacher get-togethers and school reunions.
Patsy married Austin in 1952 in Canyon, Texas.  He died in 2010.  They are survived by two daughters, Lynn McPherson and husband Bob of Amarillo and Ann Clark and husband Joe of Baird, Texas, their grandchildren, Lisa Weiss and husband Casey, Travis McPherson and wife Rebecca, Chelsa Wilkinson and husband Jason, and Jud Clark, and by eight great-grandchildren, Hunter and Austin Weiss, Claire and Will McPherson, Alli, Ashton, Aden and Aisli Wilkinson.  Patsy is also survived by her sister, Arline Key Franz, of Longmont, Colorado, and a nephew and niece, Eric Franz and Darla Franz.
Patsy and Austin were lifelong Methodists and charter members of St. Stephen United Methodist Church in Amarillo, moving their membership to First United Methodist Church in Canyon in 1968.  Patsy was involved in the Crusaders Sunday School Class, United Methodist Women and the Wesley Community Center serving in many capacities during her lifetime.  She embraced the promises of God and had faith in Him and His Word.
Patsy took care of business with resolve and a true inner grit.  She enjoyed watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren enjoy their activities.  She also loved family “red plate” celebrations, a burger at JT’s, the WT Lady Buffs, her weekly beauty shop appointment, going to the farm, a drive through the mountains during the fall foliage and seeing the Texas bluebonnets in bloom.
Patsy’s family would like to thank her supportive Canyon friends, her church and the exceptionally compassionate and skilled staff of Harrington Assisted Living, the Ware Living Center and BSA Hospice of the Southwest that helped care for her.  Suggested memorials include the Austin and Patsy Bowes Scholarship Fund at the Opportunity Plan, 504 24th Street, Canyon, TX  79015, First United Methodist Church, 1818 4th Avenue, Canyon, TX  79015, or kindly thank a teacher.  Her family will be at 6901 Windridge Place in Amarillo.
“Turn your eyes upon Jesus.  Look full in His wonderful face.  And the things of earth will grow strangely dim, in the light of His glory and grace.”—Helen Lemmel.
