Gene Levitt

Paul “Gene” Levitt, 86, of Amarillo, Texas, passed away on Thursday, April 24, 2025. Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, April 28, 2025, at 10am at LaGrone Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors, Coulter Road chapel. The family will receive friends for a visitation from 3-5pm on Sunday, April 27, 2025, at the funeral home. Graveside services will be at Northlawn Memorial Gardens in Dumas, Texas.

Gene Levitt was born on August 1, 1938, in Wheeler, Texas, to Carl Levitt and Juanita Bradstreet. He graduated from Allison High School and went on to earn his bachelor's degree from West Texas State University in 1962. During his time there, he proudly helped establish the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity, a legacy he cherished throughout his life.

Gene served his country with honor in the United States Army, dedicating several years to military service. In 1967, he married the love of his life, Elizabeth Whitehead. Together, they shared 47 wonderful years of marriage until her passing in 2014.

Professionally, Gene worked as a service representative for International Harvester, where he built a reputation for his reliability and strong work ethic. In retirement, he remained an active supporter of his alma mater and greatly enjoyed a West Texas A&M sporting event. He also enjoyed keeping up with current events and watching the news.

Gene was a man of simplicity, integrity, and enduring friendship. Whether you met him in high school or later in life, if you were his friend, you were a friend for life. His genuine nature and steady presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Elizabeth Levitt; his brothers, Bill Levitt, Jerry Levitt and Don Levitt and his sister, Shirley Arabie.

Gene is survived by his son, John Levitt and wife, Terri; his daughter Michelle Ducheneaux and husband, Troy; his brothers, Tom Levitt and Larry Levitt; his grandchildren, Chelsea Ducheneaux and partner, Jeremiah Slatten, Joshua Ducheneaux and Fiance, Juna Glasscock, Dylan West and wife, Atlanta, Dakota West and wife, Rachel, Damon West and wife, Lilly; his great-grandchildren, Bentley West, Waylynn West, Rayden West and Tucker West. Gene also leaves behind his loving community of cherished friends at Brookdale Senior Living.
