Oran J. Durham, 78, former Groom resident passed from this life on Wednesday, August 22, 2018. Family and friends will gather to celebrate his life at 3:00 pm Sunday, August 26, 2018 in Hillcrest Cemetery, McLean, Texas with Thacker Haynes and Casey Carter, officiating. Burial will follow the services. Arrangements are under the personal care of LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Funeral Directors, 8310 S. Coulter Road.
Oran was born on August 4, 1940 in Alanreed, Texas to Ambrose and Georgia Durham. He grew up in between Alanreed and McLean where he graduated from high school. He served in the United States Army. Oran married Ada L. Brown on March 27, 1959 in Kellerville, Texas and they made Groom their home. Oran worked as a welder where he worked in Alaska and all over the United States. He was a member of Groom Methodist Church. He also was a mason where he was a Worshipful Master Groom Lodge #1170 and a District Deputy Grand Master of District 99. He was a lifelong resident of Groom until he and his wife moved to Amarillo in 2009. He was an avid gardener, enjoyed hunting and fishing. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bruce and Georgia Durham; brother, E. B. Durham; sister, Patsy Wilson; daughter, Lynn Beal and grandson, Cody Podzemny.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Ada Durham; daughter Jo Ann Podzemny and husband, Tim; six grandchildren, Dustin Rogers and wife, Amber, Deanna Holcomb and husband, Chris, Jessica Hutchens, and husband, Hayden, Jason Podzemny and wife, Beth and Shaylee Muller and husband, Syfred; son in law, David Beal; sister in law, Lynn Marie Durham; nephew Jason Durham and wife, Kelly; and eleven great grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials to Shriner's Children Hospital.
