Nancy Julia (Miller) Matthews, 93, of Amarillo passed away on June 1, 2011.
Mrs. Matthew's memorial service will be at 2pm Friday, June 3, 2011 at the First Baptist Church Chapel with Corky Holland of First Baptist Church Officiating. Private interment will take place at Citizens Cemetery in Clarendon, TX. Arrangements are by LaGrone-Blackburn-Shaw Coulter Road Chapel, 8310 S. Coulter Road, Amarillo, TX.
Nancy was born to Wesley Braxton Miller and Julia Wade Miller on November 23, 1917 in Memphis, Tennessee. She grew to adulthood in central Mississippi and graduated from high school in 1934. She moved with her family to the Texas Panhandle, settling at Ashtola in Donley County. She attended Holmes Junior College in Mississippi for one semester and then Clarendon Community College in 1938-1939. She earned her BS degree in Education from West Texas Teachers College (now WTA&M University) in 1941. After teaching school three years, Nancy was employed by the Federal Government for 21 years. Nancy married Robert Hill Matthews December 23, 1967 and he passed away February 11, 1982. Mrs. Matthews was a long time member of the First Baptist Church, and The Miriam Sunday School Class.
She was preceded in death by her husband Robert and sister Deolece .
Her survivors include one sister, Joyce Lovett of Clovis NM.; one nephew, Robert A. Parmelee of Ft Worth, one niece: Christine Taylor of Grand Prairie, TX., three step sons: Robert H. Matthews of Centerville OH., Thomas Freeman Matthews of Austin TX., and Larry Paul Matthews of Troy OH.
