Myrtle "Lee" Woods

December 25, 1926 — April 17, 2011

Myrtle “Lee” Woods, 84 of Amarillo passed away on April 17, 2011.  Funeral Services will be at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, April 21, 2011 at Second Baptist Church, 419 N. Buchanan, with Rev. Wayne Griffin officiating.  Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery by LaGrone-Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors, Martin Road Chapel at 1505 Martin Road in Amarillo, TX.

Mrs. Woods was born Dec. 25, 1926 in Idabel, Oklahoma to Oscar and Myrtle Brogdon and grew up in Wayne OK.  She married J. R. Woods Nov. 16, 1945 in Urbana, IL.  She had been a resident of Amarillo since 1956 and had worked for several years at both Maywood Door and Tech-Spray.  Lee loved spending time attending her grand-kids sporting events and going to “Church Singings”.  She enjoyed her daily coffee time with her friends and also enjoyed Bingo and reading Christian Books.  She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be deeply missed by all her family and friends.  The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of BSA Hospice for the loving and compassionate care.

Survivors include her son, Steve Woods and wife Sandie, three daughters, Lavonna Davis and husband Ernie, Cindy Backus and husband John and Beverly Sanders and husband Bobby, 17 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren, three brothers, Glen Brogdon, Homer Brogdon and John Brogdon.  She is also survived by her special companion, her Boston Terrier “LuLu”.

She was preceded in death by her husband J.R. Woods, a grandson, Nathan; her mother and father, three brothers and two sisters.

The family will receive friends from 6-8:00PM Wednesday evening at the Funeral Home, 1505 Martin Road.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested memorials be to a favorite charity.
