Mildred Louise Stevens Smith, 93, formerly of Memphis, Texas died Wednesday, June 15, 2016 in Amarillo. Graveside service will be held at 4:00 pm, Saturday, June 18, 2016 in Fairview Cemetery, Memphis, Texas with Pastor Johnnie Snider, of Travis Baptist Church, Memphis, Texas, officiating. Arrangements are by LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Funeral Directors, 8310 S. Coulter Street.
Mildred was born October 27, 1922 to Thomas Claude Stevens and Emma Eliza Smoak Stevens in Morris County, Texas. The family moved to Memphis in 1936. She married her best friend and companion, S.J. "Shorty" Smith, in 1961 in Memphis, Texas. Mildred worked as a telephone operator, retiring from General Telephone Company. She was a member of Travis Baptist Church in Memphis, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, S.J. "Shorty" Smith, a step son
Jerry Smith, a granddaughter Elesa Kay Crump and three brothers, Claude Edward Stevens, Morris Stevens and Willie Perry Stevens.
Left to mourn her passing are her daughter, Peggy Crump of Amarillo; her son, Tom Henson and wife Darlene of Amarillo; step son, Steve Smith and wife Wanda of Clarendon; step daughter Jane Salzman and husband Brad of Farmington, New Mexico; brothers, Roy Don Stevens and wife Barbara of Clarendon and Julius Stevens and wife Peggy of Tulia, and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
The family will receive guests on Saturday, June 18, 2016 from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm at the funeral home.
