Mildred was born on October 2, 1922 in Curry County, NM to Dillon and Eugenia Abell. She attended schools in Grady, NM, graduating from Grady High School. She married Kenneth V. Brown on December 16, 1942 in Amarillo. He preceded her in death on May 14, 1987. Mildred was a longtime member of St. Andrews Church where she taught Sunday school for many years. She enjoyed and participated in many artistic endeavors at both church and home. She served as the past local president of the Amarillo Humane Society, where she was instrumental in improving the handling and care of stray animals. During her term, she helped in the development of the blue and white handling cages named Wilbur Wagons after her beloved pet, which helped to humanely transport animals.
She is survived by a son, Allan K. Brown of Amarillo; and a daughter, Jeanne B. Neel and husband Kimble J. of Phoenix, AZ.
