Maxine was born March 27, 1922 to Walter and Alma Witt Spoonemore in Salt Creek, Wyoming. Maxine was first and foremost the consummate survivor. She was raised by various family members and a childless couple in Kansas who took her in when her Father had to follow the ever moving “oil booms”.
She married and raised three little girls almost single handed. She walked to work at Troy Laundry and Amarillo Linen Supply during the day and made dresses for her girls at night. She walked them to church on Sundays, then would go home and send many an unsuspecting chicken to the frying pan, never missing a beat. What had to be done was done in a no nonsense manner.
Never at a loss for words, Maxine always offered her sage advice to all. Family and friends alike benefited from her hard earned life experiences and her belief in human nature and her strong common sense ethics.
Survivors include two daughters, Francine Mathis and her husband Sam of Atwood, OK. And Gaylon Bashioum and her husband Joe all of Amarillo; Seven grandchildren, 17 great grand children, and two great great grandchildren and her beloved extended family of nieces and nephews of the Tew family from southeast Texas.
