Mary G. Solano, 64, of Amarillo died on Friday, June 10, 2016. Holy Rosary will be said at 6:00 pm Monday, June 13, 2016 in LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Martin Road Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 pm Tuesday, June 14, 2016 in St. Mary’s Catholic Cathedral with Father Cesar Gomez as Celebrant. Arrangements are by LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Funeral Directors, 1505 Martin Road.
Mary was born on July 12, 1951 in Las Vegas, New Mexico to Antonio and Cruzita Gallegos. She married Jose M. Solano on October 25, 1969 in Las Vegas, New Mexico. Mary and Jose moved to Amarillo where their home was always open to anyone in need of a place to stay.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Freddie Gallegos.
Mary is survived by her husband of 46 years, Jose Solano; four children, Brenda Mitchell and husband Keith, Joe Michael Solano, Gerri Chavez, and husband Chris, and Eddie Solano and wife Stephanie; eight grandchildren, Amanda, Tiffany, Kyle, Christian, Josie, Marcus, Katelyn, Ryan; two great grandchildren, Justin, and Kloe; a brother, Louie Gallegos; three sisters, Elizabeth Castillo, Dorothy Maestas, and Agnes Junell; and numerous nieces, nephews, and all the children she took under her wings.
The family suggests memorials to Faith City Mission at 401 S 2nd Street, Amarillo, TX 79101.
