Elizabeth was born on December 20, 1907 to Mary Francis Dodds and Samuel Turner Cherry in Dunn, TX. Her father was a Methodist circuit minister who passed away when Mary Elizabeth was ten years old. Her mother raised Mary Elizabeth and her 4 siblings alone. The Methodist Church helped this family, providing them with a home in Childress, TX. She later enrolled at West Texas State Teacher’s College in Canyon, earning her Bachelor’s Degree in English in 1929. It was there that she met her husband, Leo Forrest. Elizabeth enjoyed watching the wildlife of Lake Tanglewood. She was a superb cook. She will be remembered as a simple, elegant Christian who cared immensely for everyone in her life.
Survivors include 2 children: Bedford Forrest and his wife Reva of Amarillo and Cherry Anne and her husband Dr. Joe Harrison of Maui, HI; 7 granddaughters; 3 step granddaughters; 9 great grandchildren; 9 step great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by parents and her husband Leo Forrest.
Memorial Contributions: Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorials to West Texas A&M University Scholarship fund.
