Martha Giles McGuire Gentry, 89, of Amarillo, passed from this life on December 31, 2017.
Services will be held on Saturday, January 6th, at 1:00 p.m. at Saint Paul United Methodist Church, 4317 I-40 West, with the Rev. Perry Hunsaker and Rev. Bill Ivins officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are under the personal care of LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Funeral Directors, 8310 S. Coulter Road.

Mrs. Gentry was born on October 26, 1928 in Amarillo to Mabel Andrews McGuire and B.D. McGuire, and except for a few years in her childhood spent in Arkansas, was a lifelong resident. She graduated from Amarillo High School in 1946. In 1947, she married the love of her life, Franklin Wayne Gentry, and they were married 56 years, until his passing in 2003. She was a lifelong member of Buchanan Street United Methodist Church.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Mary McGuire Cook, son-in-law James Ivey Edwards, and a grandson, James Scott Edwards.

Survivors include three daughters, Carolyn Hess and husband Jim McKinney of Dallas, Linda Bagley and husband James of Amarillo, and Donna Edwards of Weatherford; four grandchildren, Andrea Hayward and husband Larry of Weatherford, Kelly O’Brien and husband Corey of Frisco, Emily Brown and husband Eric of Plano, and John Hess of Garland; and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be at LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Coulter Road Chapel on Friday, January 5th, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

The family suggests memorials be to Buchanan Street United Methodist Church, 617 N. Buchanan, or the charity of your choice.
