Marion Murray "MM" Giles was born on May 23, 1921 and went peacefully to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on June 12, 2010, joining his wife of 59 years, Tula, his father Virgil, mother Lora and sister Annie in the presence of God.
An avid outdoorsman, Dad loved to hunt and fish and passed that same love to his sons. He also loved to travel and took the family on numerous vacations around the country. He was a proud World War II veteran.
Dad was known by his fellow railroaders as 'Many Miles Giles' for all the miles he put in on the Santa Fe during his 43 years as a conductor. His love of trains continued throughout his 89 years; the family always stopped to watch them go by. His friends and family knew he was an early pioneer and ardent supporter of 'recycling'. He was a founding member of the Church of Christ at the Colonies and considered many of his fellow parishioners to be his extended family.
He is survived by his wife Mary Virginia, two sons, Dan and Bobby of Amarillo, niece Sue McDonald and nephew Bobby Brown of Amarillo, grandniece Cindy Pick of Dallas, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family would like to publicly thank the staff at Ussery-Roan Texas State Veterans Home for their loving care of and genuine commitment to Dad during his stay with them.
