February 9, 2017 at LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Funeral Home, Coulter Road Chapel with Pastor LaVon Thompson officiating. Burial to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Arrangements are by LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Funeral Directors, 8310 S. Coulter Road.
Margaret Firth-Eagland Scott was born in a little town near the shores of Lake Winnipeg, Langruth in Manitoba, Canada in 1923. She lived in Saskatchewan and northern Alberta before attending school in Hamilton, Ontario, where a high school English teacher encouraged her to write poetry.
Margaret’s secretarial training was at the Canada Business College in Hamilton. She went to Washington D.C. as a secretary with the British Joint Services Missions during World War II. In Washington she attended Georgetown University for journalism courses and other classes.
In Washington Margaret learned to fly a light aircraft. It was through her interest in aviation that she met her husband, Hugh Browne Scott, a member of the U.S. Air Force. After their marriage, Margaret continued with the BJSM while Hugh was at the Pentagon. Joining the Air Attache Service took Hugh to the U.S. Embassy in Karachi, Pakistan for two years. This tour of duty took them around the world by ship and air, and they visited many interesting cities and countries in the Far East and in Europe.
Since 1954 the Scotts have lived in Amarillo, Texas, where they reared two children, a daughter and a son. Hugh passed away in 1999; Margaret still resides in Amarillo.
Margaret is a past president of Hi-Plains Chapter of the Poetry Society of Texas and is a lifetime member of the Poetry Society of Texas. She is a former member of the Panhandle Pen Women. She attended advanced courses of study at Amarillo College and West Texas State University, as well as lessons in Hebrew and Bible.
Margaret co-authored the book “Eve’s Version” in 1983. She has written hundreds of Biblical poems and other poetry in her lifetime.
Margaret is survived by a son, Robert Scott of Amarillo.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, William and Mabel Firth-Eagland, her husband, Hugh B. Scott and a daughter, Marlene E. Scott.
