Margaret Wynona Breit

June 26, 1931 — January 11, 2025

Amarillo, Texas

Margaret Wynona “Nona” Breit, age 93, of Amarillo, Texas, departed this life on January 11, 2025. Born on June 26, 1931, in Ravanna, Arkansas, Nona lived a vibrant and full life as a homemaker, mother, bartender, and a gifted baton twirler.

During her bartending days in New Orleans, Louisiana, Nona met the love of her life, a handsome Navy man named Richard Breit. Their love story began when Richard, upon learning that it was her birthday, brought her a cake to the bar; and it truly was love at first “bite.” They married shortly after and spent 58 beautiful years together, sharing laughter, adventures, and unwavering devotion until Richard’s passing on July 4, 2023. Now, they continue their love story together in Heaven.

Nona was known for her sassy wit, spirited personality, and keen intellect. She treasured her family and friends and found joy in lively lunch outings and heartfelt connections.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Richard Dale Breit; her parents, Joseph Harvey Lawrence and Gracie Dahlia Nelson.

Nona leaves behind a loving legacy through her children: Steven Breit of St. Joseph, Missouri; Tanya Martinez and husband Lee Martinez of Amarillo, Texas; Teresa Meyer and husband Ryan Meyer of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and Dee Freeman of Texarkana, Texas.

She was the proud grandmother of four grandsons: Layne LeBleu and his wife Halley of Oregon; Evan LeBleu and his wife Lauren of Oregon; Alex Martinez and his wife Sophia, currently serving in the U.S. Army; and Zane Martinez and his wife Daniela, also serving in the U.S. Army. She also cherished her granddaughter, Rachel Freeman of Texas.

Nona’s legacy extends to her three great-grandsons: Wyatt LeBleu and Luke LeBleu of Oregon, and Kayson Hoffman of Texas.
