Manuel Edgar Underwood, 83, of Amarillo died Monday, May 15, 2017. Memorial services will be at 2:00 pm, on Friday, May 19, 2017 in Polk Street United Methodist Church Ware Chapel with Rev. Kevin Deckard, associate pastor, officiating. Arrangements are under the personal care of LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Funeral Directors, 8310 S. Coulter St.
Manuel E. Underwood was born on July 17, 1933 in Idalou to Emory and Lula Belle Underwood. He graduated from Amarillo High School in 1951. Manuel married Donna Cator on May 15, 1971 in Polk Street United Methodist Church in Amarillo. He worked as a chief draftsman and senior geological technologist for Diamond Shamrock Oil and Gas for 35 years until his retirement. He was a gifted, self- taught artist where he painted portraits and landscapes. He also did caricatures of family and friends. Manuel was involved with United Way where he did a caricatures of the chairman of the board that was presented to him at the yearly banquet. He was a loyal member and teacher of Maverick Men's Sunday School class at Polk Street for over 40 years. He enjoyed reciting poetry, playing golf and watching the Dallas Cowboys. He was a devoted husband and father who cherished family time.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Novia Weigum, Thelma Cain and Evelyn Reeves and three brothers, Lee Underwood, Emory Underwood and Bill Underwood.
Mr. Underwood is survived by his wife of 46 years, Donna; his children, Tamesha Nichole Owen and husband, Matt of Austin, Texas and Christopher Cole Underwood of Houston, Texas; two grandchildren Reese and Blake Owen; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Family will receive family and friends on Thursday, May 18, 2017 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the funeral home.
