Manny Perez Villasenor, 71 of Amarillo passed away on October 25, 2011.
Holy Rosary will be read at 6:30 PM Thursday evening, October 27, 2011 at LaGrone-Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors Coulter Chapel, 8310 S. Coulter Rd, Amarillo, TX.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 2:00 PM Friday, October 28, 2011 at St. Laurence Catholic Church, 2300 N. Spring in Amarillo, TX. with Father Gabriel Garcia as celebrant. Burial will follow in Llano Cemetery by LaGrone-Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors.
Mr. Perez was born on April 27, 1940 in Billings Montana to Amador and Luisa Villasenor. He grew up in Amarillo and attended Amarillo High School and Graduated from Price College. He was a Golden Gloves boxing champion and had a very successful boxing career. Manny married Maida Gutierrez in Borger in 1963 and had worked at Pantex for over 38 years when he retired in 2006. Mr. Perez served as Potter County Commissioner for over 25 years and was highly respected in our community.. He was a longtime member of St. Laurence Catholic Church and served as an usher for many years for the 5:30 PM Mass. He was also a 4th degree Knights of Columbus with the St. Laurence Council. He was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his wife Maida, two daughters, Julianne King and Teresa Dement and husband Carl of Amarillo, seven grandchildren, Sean London and wife Nikki, Colin Lawler, Denver Lawler, Travis Lawler, Gianna King, Marissa King and Aly King all of Amarillo, 4 sisters, Martha Olivarez, Mary Parrie, Hortencia Reyes and Gloria Pineda and two brothers, Amador “BeBe” Villasenor and Pete Villasenor both of Amarillo.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Alex Perez and two sisters, Rosa Ramirez and Marcellina Flores.
The family suggests memorials to St. Laurence Catholic Church, Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church or Odyssey Hospice Care of Amarillo.
