Luther was born August 12, 1916 in Beckham County, OK to John Henry and Tommie Sally Bridges Green. He married Coraine McKennon on Nov. 20, 1937 in Sayre, OK. He lived in Amarillo for the past 49 years with the past 5 years as a resident of Ussery-Roan Texas State Veterans Home. For 64 years Luther pastored churches in OK and Texas. He was a member and former pastor of Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church. Luther was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and uncle. Last week, after 74 years he was given his last earthly gift from God reuniting him with his nephew, Jim Smiley. He loved to fish and if he ever saw or heard about something that needed to be done to help a member of his church or family, he just did it. He was “L.R.” to his loving wife, “Brother Green” to many, “Dad, Granddad, and Papa” to his family. No matter what you called him, he was the greatest example of faith in God, compassion, honesty, competence, humility, and love we could have ever had. The family wishes to thank his wonderful caregivers at Ussery-Roan and Hospice Care of the Southwest for their help and kindness.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Coraine in 2008, a son, Johnnie Ray Green, 4 sisters and 4 brothers.
