Lonnie Ray Colbert

December 1, 1942 — June 24, 2011

Mr. Lonnie Ray Colbert, 68 of Amarillo passed away on June 24, 2011.

A Celebration of Life Services will be held on Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at 2:00 pm in LaGrone-Blackburn-Shaw Martin Road Chapel, 1505 Martin Road, Amarillo, TX 79119 with military honors.

The family will receive friends on Monday, June 27, 2011 from 6 pm-8 pm at LaGrone-Blackburn-Shaw Martin Road Chapel.

Lonnie was born on December 1, 1942 in Vernon, TX to John P. and Julia M. Colbert.  He was raised in Amarillo, attending high school at Palo Duro High.  He enlisted in the United States Marines in 1960 and was honorably discharged in 1966. Lonnie married Sandra Coble on April 27, 1973 in Clovis, NM.

He worked as an electrician, heavy equipment operator and was self employed throughout the years installing septic systems and various construction work.  He enjoyed tinkering on projects and many of his own inventions.  He had great love for his family, friends and his horses.  Lonnie was a member of the Amarillo VFW Post 430.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

His survivors include his wife, Sandra Colbert of Amarillo; son Mike Coble and wife Tonya of Amarillo; stepson, Kevin Coble of Huntington, IN; sister, Barbara Colbert of Bay Point, CA; brother, John K. Colbert and wife Dolly of Amarillo; granddaughter, Ashley Hartman; grandson, Tyler Coble; sister-in-laws, Shirley Perry and Shelia Starr and husband Jerry of Childress; brother-in-law, Fred Wright of Amarillo; 3 nieces; 6 nephews and many friends.
