Elaine Marzolf Fields, 75, of Amarillo died on Friday, October 13, 2017. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, October 28, 2017 in LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Coulter Road Chapel, 8310 S. Coulter Road.
Elaine was born on February 18, 1942 in Blanco, Texas to John M and Zola Mae (Grissom) Marzolf. She graduated from Adamson High School in Dallas. Elaine studied dance under Buster Cooper in Dallas and found her life’s passion for teaching as well as performing on stage with the Dallas Summer Musicals for several seasons. In 1961, she married Charles Fields. They made Amarillo their home where she opened Elaine Fields School of Dance. At this time, Elaine also choreographed and performed in several musicals at Amarillo Little Theatre. Elaine eventually closed the studio to focus on her growing family but missed working with dancers so she began teaching at Amarillo College. Elaine started as an instructor with the Continuing Education department, eventually serving as head of the academic dance department as well as the Continuing Education dance department. After retiring from Amarillo College, Elaine cofounded and served as artistic director for the nonprofit dance organization Stepping Out. She continued teaching classes throughout her retirement.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and two sisters Maxine Crossley and Yvonne "Tootsie" Marzolf Coker.
Mrs. Fields is survived by her husband of 56 years, Charles Fields; her four children, Alan Fields, John Fields, Sharon Harrell and Jason Fields; five grandchildren, Logan Fields, Chelsey Elder, Jon Theodore Fields, John Harrell and Madison Harrell; and two great grandchildren, Emma and Levi Fields.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial contributions be made to Hope Lodge in Lubbock at hopelodgelubbock@cancer.org. or St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
