Graveside Service will be at 9:00 AM Saturday Dec. 1, 2012 at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Amarillo, Texas. Arrangements are by LaGrone-Blackburn Shaw Funeral Directors, Coulter Road Chapel, 8310 S. Coulter Road.
Mr. Hewitt was born on Sept. 9, 1919 in Roswell, NM to E.C. and Carrie Hewitt. L.C. was a graduate of Hereford High School and attended West Texas State Teacher’s College prior to enlisting in the U. S. army in 1942, during WW II. He served primarily in the European theater and met his future bride Vera Nixson of Derby, England, who served with the Royal Air Force. They were married in Warwick, England in 1945. Mr. Hewitt and his twin brother E.C. Jr. were long time dry land wheat farmers and ranchers in the Hereford area. They also owned and operated numerous businesses including the Playhouse Skating Rink for 35 years. The Hewitt brothers were respected businessmen in Hereford. Following retirement in 1985, L.C. and Vera moved to the Amarillo area. Mr. Hewitt was a wonderful husband, father, loving grandfather and friend who cared deeply about the welfare of children and animals.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years in 2001, his parents, 3 sisters, Gladys, Nellie, and Zora; 3 brothers, Alvin, E.C. Jr. and Frank.
He is survived by 2 daughters, Suzanne Hewitt of Amarillo and Beverly Christiansen and husband Gregory of Stephenville; 2 granddaughters, Amy Knorpp of Palo Alto, CA and Kyla Christiansen of Stephenville; one grandson, Brant Christiansen of Austin; one sister, Ina Hunsley of Overton Park, Kansas; a special niece, Lynda Duncan of Amarillo; and his devoted pet, Toby.
