Lawrence Edgar "Larry" Hermesmeyer

Lawrence was born on March 7, 1935 in Carson County, Texas to Lawrence and Sophia Hermesmeyer.  He moved to Amarillo with his family, graduating from Canyon High School in 1953.  Larry was then drafted to the United States Army in July of 1954.  He was honorably discharged in April of 1956. On January 11, 1960 he married Wanda Yates in Dumas. Lawrence then attended college in Albuquerque where he received his Associate’s Degree in Electronics.   He worked for the Amarillo Police Department as a law enforcement officer from 1957 to 1961. Larry began employment with Sandia National Laboratory in 1969 in Albuquerque, Tonopah, NV and at Pantex in Amarillo as a nuclear weapons inspector until his retirement in 1997.  He enjoyed tinkering on electronics and was a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church where he faithfully served as a deacon and maintenance.

Larry is preceded in death by his parents and his brother.


Survivors include, his wife Wanda Hermesmeyer of Amarillo; 2 daughters, Pamela Hermesmeyer of Amarillo and Deborah Hayes and husband Merle of Houston; son, Tony Hermesmeyer and wife Yvonne of Rowlett; 7 grandchildren, Tyson Hermesmeyer and wife Krystal, Toby Hermesmeyer and wife Konni, Andrea Roland, Timothy Hermesmeyer and wife Rachel, Wesley Eitel, Lauren Weir and husband Doug and Alec Hermesmeyer and 4 great grandchildren, Bailey, Tatum, Taryn Hermesmeyer and Caleb Newsome.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to BSA Hospice or to Pleasant Valley Baptist Church Activity Center.
