Larry Gail Porter, 75, of Amarillo died on Tuesday, April 7, 2015. Funeral services will be at 11:00 am, Friday, April 10, 2015 at LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Coulter Road Chapel with Brother Danny Logan officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park cemetery. Arrangements are by LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Funeral Directors, 8310 S. Coulter.

Larry was born on February 5, 1940 in Caldwell, KS to Hubert and Hazel Porter. Larry graduated from Blackwell High School. He then went to college at Oklahoma State University obtaining his Bachelors Degree. Larry married Carolyn Busby on June 11, 1991 in Amarillo. Larry was a band director at schools in Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas. Larry loved playing golf, shooting pool and taking care of his yard. His neighbors were envious of his yards and knew that when Larry got his mower out, they soon would be mowing their yards. He was a jack of all trades but not a fan of electricity. Larry and Carolyn have three dogs that were his buddies.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife Carolyn; two daughters, Gale Stashi and husband Rob of Amarillo and Stephanie Hayes and husband John Michael of Lubbock; twelve grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the staff at BSA Hospice for the loving care provided to Larry and his family.

The family will be receiving friends at LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Coulter Road Chapel from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, Thursday, April 9, 2015.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to BSA Hospice or SPCA.
